‘Mainely History’ podcast taping at Old York: It’s Pronounced “Jail”: 400 years of Incarceration, Education, and Tourism at York’s Old Gaol
Join Ian Saxine and Tiffany Link, the co-hosts from the public history podcast, Mainely History, as they, along with Old York’s Executive Director, Joel Lefever, and Education Coordinator, Erin Tewksbury, discuss a full history of the Gaol, focusing on how it operated for both employees and detainees in the 17th and 18th centuries. The discussion will then move on to the Gaol’s transformation into a local history point of interest and tourist attraction in the late 19th/early 20th century, and its connection to the Colonial Revival and growth of historical tourism.
