Local Organization Launches Fundraiser in its 10th Year
Kittery, ME – March 28, 2016 – Nearly 3,000 runners and walkers have crossed the finish line since the Kittery Fire Association 5K began ten years ago. Organizers are expecting another 400 runners when the road race returns for its tenth year on Sunday, May 22, 2016. The race begins at 9 a.m. from the Kittery Fire Department at 3 Gorges Road and offers coastal views from the waterfront course. The free Kids Fun Run begins at 10 a.m.
For the Kittery Fire Association, success extends well beyond the finish line. All funds raised will directly benefit its volunteer-driven organization which advocates fire safety, education and prevention. Since launching in 2006, the 5K has helped fund the purchase of critical equipment for the Kittery Fire Department, including a thermal imager, training equipment, uniforms, and a future firefighter memorial. The road race has also funded a scholarship for one Kittery Traip graduate each year.
Proud to celebrate 10 years of success with this event, those of all ages and ability level are encouraged to participate. Families are encouraged to run. Both strollers and dogs are allowed to participate.
