Status Part-time (7 hours/week from May 10 - June 20),
Full-time (35-40 hours/week, 5 days/week from June 21 - August 13),
Seasonal, Nonexempt, Hourly
Compensation $14.00/hour

In conjunction with the Director of Education, Roleplaying Coordinator, Camp Leads and Interns, develop and implement assigned summer camp programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop familiarity with interpretive topics and historical timeline of Strawbery Banke Museum
  • Create age appropriate activities that are both educational and engaging and adhere to an assigned theme
  • Gather supplies and materials needed for each activity and do a test run to be certain of success with campers
  • Complete lesson plans and a camp outlines to maintain a record of camp activities.
  • Help to ensure the welfare and safety of campers and collections
  • Act as liaison between camp families and SBM staff to ensure a positive experience
  • Participate in annual and ongoing training to build professional knowledge in historical content, interpretive techniques, and educational theory
  • Provide excellent customer service and relations to deliver an outstanding visitor experience
  • Maintain a professional demeanor; comply with stated personnel policies, cultivate good relations with colleagues; and represent the Museum in a positive light
  • Work punctually on a tightly timed schedule
Education and Skill Requirements:
  • Prior teaching experience required.
  • Knowledge of and interest in American history, especially New England culture and history preferred.
  • Ability to work enthusiastically with all children regardless of age and ability.
  • Ability to synthesize content and build interactive curriculum based on that content
  • Sound judgment in response to challenging situations
  • Positive attitude and ability to build respectful working relationships
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
  • Ability to work indoors and out, in locations that may be hot, cold, dusty, or drafty, in all weather conditions; and to work in older buildings
  • Eyesight sufficient to supervise children safely and implement crafts, cooking and other hands-on activities
  • Hearing sufficient to carry on a clear, two-way conversation with adults and children
  • Physical stamina sufficient to respond quickly to any emergency or camper difficulty, to maintain an attentive posture for several hours, and to otherwise fulfill the requirements of assigned tasks
  • Mobility sufficient to traverse uneven grounds and dirt roads in all weather on a timed schedule, to negotiate steps and/or ramps, and in some assignments, to lift, carry, and use objects such as hearth cooking equipment, firewood, weaving apparatus, etc.

Required Working Conditions:
Camps will take place outdoors on the museum grounds following Strawbery Banke Museum’s COVID-19  guidelines for 2021 (additional details are provided in thSBM Employee Handbook). 
 
A group of tents will be provided for protection from the sun and rain, though some activities will take place without cover.  In case of weather in which being under tents does not provide adequate protection or in cases of extreme heat, activities will take place in a properly filtered and air conditioned indoor space. You will be required to spend some time in the Education Center gathering and preparing materials.
