The York Sewer District will host an informational session for food service establishments in York. This informational session is an important first step in helping the York Sewer District to further its mission to protect our shared water resources.
Why Are We Doing This?
One of the greatest challenges to successful operation of our community’s sewers is the improper disposal of Fats, Oil, and Grease—We refer to this as FOG. When dumped or washed down the drain, they cause blockages in the sewer and create overflows of raw sewage into our waters.
What Are We Going to Do?
The York Sewer District is beginning an outreach campaign to help Yorkfood service establishments and residents understand new rules, regulations, and best practices to achieve compliance and help keep FOG out of our sewers. In other communities, this type of outreach program has resulted in significant reductions in sewer blockages and overflows.
How Can You Help?
Without assistance from food service establishments and residents, we cannot achieve our goal of zero overflows and sewer backups. Please attend this first informational session to help us:
- Understand how to best get the word out
- Share information on this issue to food service establishment employees
- Understand what information you need to help us make this program work
