A Lighting of
the Pumpkins
Friday, October 30, 5–8 pm
Call for pumpkins!
Old York will once again line the walls of the Old Burying Ground in York Village with jack-o’-lanterns in celebration of the spookiest holiday of all. It was a fantastic sight last year, and we plan to continue the tradition—albeit at a safe distance (this will be a drive-by event).
But we need your help! Put your creativity to work, and carve a pumpkin for the wall.
Carved pumpkins may be dropped off at the Old York Museum Center parking lot, located at 3 Lindsay Road, between 12 and 3pm on October 30th. Volunteers will be on hand to receive the pumpkins. Masks are required at drop off.
Following the event, carved pumpkins may be picked up by their makers after 8pm, and no later than 9 am on November 1. Any remaining pumpkins will be discarded at that time.

OLD YORK HOSTS ANNUAL LIGHTING OF THE PUMPKINS
Old York Historical Society will hold a Lighting of the Pumpkins on Friday, October 30th, from 5 to 8 pm.
Enjoy a spooky spectacle in 18th-century style! Following the success of last year’s popular community event, Old York will once again illuminate the walls of the Old Burying Ground in York Village with jack-o’-lanterns. You may also catch a glimpse of some creepy characters and ghosts of Halloweens past lurking around the burying ground and historic buildings (Jefferds Tavern, York Corner Schoolhouse, Emerson-Wilcox House, and the Old Gaol). The pumpkins will be lit starting at 5 pm.
Due to COVID-19 and Maine state social-distancing guidelines, this event will be drive-by only. Attendees are requested to stay in their cars while viewing the event. This is a fun and safe way to mark the Halloween holiday.
This event is FREE and open to the public. In event of heavy rain, the event is postponed until October 31.
CALL FOR PUMPKINS!
Children of all ages are invited to help Old York fill the stone walls around the Old Burying Ground with jack-o’-lanterns. Carved pumpkins may be dropped off between 12 and 3pm on October 30th, at the Old York Museum Center parking lot, located at 3 Lindsay Road. Volunteers will be on hand to direct you, or to receive the pumpkins should you wish to remain in your car. Masks are required at drop off.
Following the event, carved pumpkins may be picked up by their makers after 8pm, and no later than 9 am on November 1. Any remaining pumpkins will be discarded at that time.
