Michelle Cacho-Negrete & Jenny Doughty Authors Talk
Author Michelle Cacho-Negrete and poet Jenny Doughty will read from their works and speak about their writing. Jenny Doughty has lived in Maine since 2002 and serves as President of the Maine Poets Society. A former English teacher and Education Adviser to Penguin Books in the UK, she has published short stories, articles, and poems in various publications both in the U.S. and in Britain. Her first poetry collection, “Sending Bette Davis to the Plumber”, was published by Moon Pie Press in the fall. Michelle Cacho-Negrete is a retired social worker and now full-time writer who lives in Portland Maine. She was born in a Brooklyn ghetto and many of her essays are about that experience. Her work is widely anthologized. Four of her essays have been selected as Notable Essays of the Year, six of her essays have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes and Street Kid was a runner-up in the Brooklyn Literary Arts Contest. She has had more than forty pieces published in print and on line journals. “Stealing: Life in America” which has received glowing reviews, is her first book of collected essays. Copies of both Jenny’s and Michelle’s books will be available for purchase.
