Book Talk "The Ordinary Virtues: Moral Order in a Divided World"
Mary Behnke, York resident and former teacher at the University of Chicago and Phillips Exeter Academy will give a presentation on the new book, "The Ordinary Virtues: Moral Order in a Divided World" by public intellectual and former professor at Harvard's Kennedy School, Michael Ignatieff. Ignatieff, a member of the Carnegie Centennial Project, set out on a journey in 2013 to discover the ethics, attitudes and perceptions of morals in a globalizing world. To do this, the small team visited seven locations all over the world: from Jackson Heights, New York through Rio de Janeiro to Bosnia and South Africa. This book is the result of the journey. Adam Roberts from University of Oxford calls this book "extraordinary" and adds, "at a time when liberal and democratic principles are widely challenged...this book is a much-needed reminder that societies ...can create a moral order that actually works".
