Stories by the Sea | Wednesdays at Ogunquit Museum
Ogunquit Museum of American Art (OMAA) offers Stories by the Sea, a program for children ages 4 to 8 that includes a story reading followed by a hands-on art project. Stories by the Sea is a part of OMAA?s Education & Outreach program that aims to create bonds among the museum and its community neighbors by teaching about OMAA?s rich art history and sharing creative art making activities.
?This is a fun and creative way for children to start a summer morning,? said Jill Burke, OMAA Education Coordinator. ?I look forward to this hour each week and to watching kids get inspired!?
The story hour takes place on OMAA?s oceanfront grounds and includes Maine-themed selections such as There are No Moose on this Island! by Stephanie Calmenson and World Full of Horses by Dahlov Ipcar. After the program concludes, children are welcome to continue their visit to OMAA with the museum?s Artful Playdate tote bags that include art supplies and fun museum activities.
The Ogunquit Museum of American Art (OMAA) was founded by Lost Generation artist Henry Strater and opened in 1953. Closely connected to two of America?s earliest art colonies that directly contributed to the roots of American modernism, OMAA today houses a permanent collection of important paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints and photographs from the late 1800s to the present and is the only museum in Maine devoted exclusively to the exhibition preservation, and interpretation of American art. A short walk from Perkins Cove, the museum and its three acres of sculpture gardens overlook Narrow Cove and the Atlantic Ocean. More information is available at www.ogunquitmuseum.org
